My heart is a flower bursting open
Tonan, our mother, has come
The goddess has come, Tlazolteotl
Cinteotl was born in Tamoanchan
where the flowers lift their heads
Ce Xochitl, One Flower is his name

Cinteotl was born in the rain and mist
where human children are made
where fishermen catch jade fish
Now will the sun rise, now will the day dawn
Let all the various firebirds sip nectar
where flowers stand erect
On earth you stand yourself up
Near the constellation Tianquiztli, the market place
I am the lord Quetzalcoatl

Let there be rejoicing by the flowering tree
hear all the firebirds, the various firebirds
Our god speaks, pay him heed
his firebird speaks;
Is it one of our dead who is piping,
who'll be felled by a dart from a blow-gun?

My flowers I shall fan with the breeze
flowers of our nourishment, blossoms like popcorn
where the blossoms all raise up their heads
