| Dear Carolyn, thanks for the update; I haven't heard from Michael, and am mostly aware that I need an uninterrupted hour to tape the sounds of the words for you. It is good to hear that despite this you both can make something of it. I am glad you like the songs. I think they are wonderful, partly because they were so different that the translators of the Florentine Codex (and Sahagun as the first editor of the material) really couldn't domesticate them as much as they did the rest of the text (Sahagun by reassembling it according to the topics of 16th c. spanish academicism, Anderson and Dibble by their language choices). Of course, I went ahead and messed with the songs myself, because Anderson and Dibble had done some odd things that seemed unhelpful to me, so I suppose I shouldn't be quite so censorious. More later, R |
